It’s technically still the middle of winter in New York, but the sun is shining and it feels a whole lot more like spring. I’m tired of dark winter colors, so here’s a quick and easy Scotch tape nail art mani to brighten up a [leap year] winter Wednesday.
I started with a second-day mani, which I always recommend for tape nail art. This means that you’ve had your base color on for at least a day – that way it’s so completely dry you won’t have any issues with the tape pulling up or smushing your polish. If you need to start from scratch, try to give your base color at least an hour of drying time before moving on.
I chose Wasabi by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics as my base color. It’s a unique pale green/chartreuse creme. My camera makes it look a lot more neon in indoor lighting, but it’s really a much softer shade, as you see below.
Using two pieces of tape, section off a small triangle at the tip of each nail. Press down firmly on the edges of the tape to create a good seal.
Fill in the stenciled triangle with a contrasting shade – I used Essie Tart Deco, a coral creme.
Carefully remove the tape strips to reveal the design. Repeat this on each nail. After drying completely, apply a good top coat.
That’s it! It’s a pretty quick and easy process, but it really jazzes up a simple mani. I love this color combo – no sign of winter on these nails!
